In 2000, Kazakhstan signed and ratified the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents, 1961. The purpose of this Convention was to shorten the processes required for a particular country to recognize the official documents issued by another country, by means of apostille certification.
Public documents and certificates that were issued in one of the countries that are signatories to the above Convention, and which bear the apostille stamp, are valid for presentation in Kazakhstan, without the need for additional verification/certification by the diplomatic/consular representative at the Embassy or Consulates of Kazakhstan.

Important! Your document has to be apostilled in the state where it was issued (certified, notarized), e.g. if you were born in New York, your birth certificate has to be apostilled in New York, your power of attorney notarized by a California notary public will need a California apostille, etc.
EXAMPLE 1:
Jane was born in New York and needs to submit a legal copy of her birth certificate to a court in Kazakhstan. She has already obtained a certified copy of her birth certificate from the appropriate office in New York. Now she needs to obtain an apostille from the Secretary of State of New York, and her document will be valid and legal in Kazakhstan.
EXAMPLE 2:
ABC Company needs to send a power of attorney to their representative in Kazakhstan. The company is located in California. The president of the company signs the power of attorney, and has his signature notarized by a California notary. Now the company needs to obtain an apostille from the Secretary of State of California, and his document will be valid and legal inKazakhstan.
