What does a New York apostille look like?
In New York, as in all states of the United States of America, an apostille is a separate page attached to the document. It is attached by a grommet. As required by the Hague convention, each apostille has the title "Apostille", the reference to the Hague Convention, and the following ten items: (1) country where the apostille is being issued ("United States of America"); (2) name of the official (whose signature is being certified by an apostille; (3) the position or capasity of this official; (4) name of of the seal on the attached document, (5) name of the city where the apostille is being issued; (6) the date when the apostille is being issued; (7) position of the official person who signed the apostille; (8) consecutive number of the apostille; (9) the seal of the apostille issuing agency (the seal of the Department of State, State of New York, this seal is blue in color); (10) signature.
Can a New York apostille be verified?
Yes, it can. The New York State Department of State allows you to verify whether an Apostille or Certificate of Authentication was issued by the New York State Secretary of State's office.
Here you can check the authenticity of a New York apostille / Certificate of authentication.
Please note that the authenticity check does not provide information about the document that was apostilled / authenticated, it provides only the confirmation that a certain apostille / certificate of authentication was issued on a certain date, and what signature it authenticated.
