New Jersey apostille requirements for Single Status Documents
Anyone who is planning to get married in a foreign country will be asked to provide this document as proof that he or she is free to marry.
In the State of New Jersey you have two options:
Option 1:
The State of New Jersey can issue a "No Record of Marriage" Statement.
Option 2:
Or, you can prepare a Single Status Affidavit that will be signed by you and notarized by a New Jersey notary public. An Affidavit of Single Status is a sworn statement in which you attest that you are single and free to marry.

Notarization requirements
For apostille / legalization purposes, your Single Status Affidavit must be original and must be properly notarized. This document is a sworn statement, therefore the notary should use a jurat. Photocopies, digital copies, notarized copies are not acceptable. Electronically (remotely) notarized documents are not eligible for apostilles.
